JAMSHEDPUR DIOCESAN CORPORATION
The Catholic Diocese of Jamshedpur / Jamshedpur Diocesan Corporation was erected on July 2, 1962. It was started by the American Jesuit Missionaries from the Maryland (USA) Province. Because of the selfless service of these American Jesuit Priests, the Diocese today proudly serves around 63,000 Catholics with 155 local diocesan and religious priests; 47 convents; 32 Parishes and 96 Mission stations. In Jharkhand, it encompasses the civil districts of Dhanbad, Seraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum, excluding the parish of Bandgaon in West Singhbhum, in Bokaro the Chandankiyari Block and the portion of Chas Block which lies in east of the National Highway 32 and in West Bengal it covers the district of Purulia. The subdivisions of Chaibasa, Chakradharpur and Seraikela in the West Singhbhum Districts were formerly parts of the Archdiocese of Ranchi. The districts of East Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Purulia were parts of the Archdiocese of Calcutta. Our main apostolate consists of Faith formation, Education, Health and Agriculture. We promote equality among all.
